Ohio (3-2, 1-0 Mid-American Conference) tallied a major victory against Gardner-Webb (2-5) at home 26-15 Sunday. Out of the ten weight divisions, six Bobcats came out winners.
Ohio's first win was redshirt sophomore Derek Raike, representing the 149-pound weight division. He defeated Gardner-Webb’s sophomore Joseph Giordano 10-3 by decision. In the following round, Ohio’s redshirt sophomore Logan Cravatas defeated sophomore Drew Pepin 13-7 by decision.
In the 174-pound weight division, one of Ohio’s best wrestlers, redshirt junior Garrett Thompson, won versus senior Andrew Wilson by technical fall 15-0. What came after was Ohio’s stellar redshirt freshman Jeremy Olszko winning over sophomore Edison Flores by fall in the 184-pound weight division.
Austin Starr, a redshirt sophomore, got a win versus junior Josh McCutchen in a 2-0 decision in the 197-pound weight division. To cap the dual off, Jordan Greer, a redshirt senior, beat freshman Mason Blue by fall.
Out of those six victories, Ohio did have four wrestlers come up short. In the 125-pound weight division, sophomore Ryan Meek couldn’t do enough to fend off junior Jeffrey Jacome, resulting in a 5-2 sudden victory.
Gardner-Webb’s redshirt freshman T.K. Davis defeated Ohio’s redshirt sophomore Mason Brugh in a brutal 18-2 technical fall in the 133-pound weight division.
Graduate student Todd Carter, for Gardner-Webb, would best Ohio’s redshirt freshman Kaden Jett in a 15-4 major decision in the 141-pound weight division. The last win for Gardner-Webb came in the form of freshman Grant Kess taking down Ohio’s redshirt sophomore Jack Lledo 8-3 by decision.
The Bobcats’ next scheduled dual is set to be Friday at 7 p.m. in The Convo. The dual is against Cleveland State.
