Following Ohio’s Mid-American Conference Championship win, it was announced Ohio coach Tim Albin would be leaving the university to become Charlotte football’s new head coach.
In Albin’s absence, Ohio named Brian Smith, the team’s interim manager, for the upcoming Cure Bowl against Jacksonville State.
Under Albin, Smith served as the associate head coach and offensive coordinator, making him the obvious pick to fill in for Albin as the team searches for a new head coach.
Smith has been with Ohio for three years but has plenty of coaching experience. Prior to Ohio, Smith served in various offensive roles with teams like Hawaii and Washington State.
Smith now becomes the leading candidate to be Ohio’s next head coach if the program chooses an internal option.
