The semester is wrapping up and finals are only in a couple of weeks. There might be windows of boredom, and filling these spaces can be a challenge. Don’t let it be a hard challenge and instead turn on the laptop or TV because there are so many different shows to watch while taking a break from the hassle of classes.
Find a cozy show to match the chillier weather. “Gilmore Girls” is a great option for this, with its wholesome characters, small-town beauty and traditions. The series is a simple show about characters who are extremely close to each other. The show also matches the sense of family that can take over during the holiday season since a mother-and-daughter duo is in the show's spotlight.
Another feel-good show with tight-knit characters is “Friends.” This series emphasizes, of course, friendship, and is a show with good humor and developing relationships. It shows the pitfalls of life in New York for people with regular jobs and struggling love lives. It is also popular for its holiday episodes and is a good pick for someone who is looking to laugh and find different couples to root for.
Continuing with the comedy theme, “Modern Family” is another option. This matches the theme of the holidays and winter centering around family time, considering it’s about one big family. Each character has a different form of humor but each brings the show together. It shows all the different family connections.
One can also take a trip back in time over break. Maybe even by 50 years, and watch “That 70s Show.” The show is relatable and funny considering it was filmed in the early 2000s and takes place in the 1970s. It's incredible to watch best friends interact similarly to any group of teenagers while a 1970s set sits behind them. The characters each capture a different part of the ‘70s life and the audience watches relationships build and fall apart many times, yet the characters stay close to people’s hearts.
Next, some shows keep people on the edge of their seats a bit more. One option for this is “Gossip Girl.” The series follows some not-so-great people with more money than one could know what to do with, making them real, but also extremely out of touch. Watching plot twists unfold while teenagers sip expensive champagne on the Upper East Side is exciting. Maybe have a girls' night and binge-watch some episodes of “Gossip Girl.”
Another show set in New York and made for girl’s night is “Sex and The City.” Following four women navigating the trials of dating and friendships, the show is a both heartfelt and out-of-pocket. The women bring together independence, confidence, love and fashion, as well as all their faults. Winter break could potentially also feel lonely and this show makes one feel like they are in the fifth in the tight group of women.
Overall, winter break can have spots of boredom throughout it. Fill that space with a good show that either warms the heart or maybe keeps the audience guessing. The winter time is for some warm time inside and watching a series is a great activity. There are so many options, so pick up the remote and find the next source of entertainment.
