Men’s Basketball: Ohio picked to finish first in MAC among other awards

Tuesday morning, during the Mid-American Conference Media Day, the MAC announced two of its biggest preseason honors: the 2024-25 MAC Preseason Poll and the 2024-25 Preseason All-MAC Teams.

Ohio finished first in the poll, voted on by the head coaches of the MAC, earning 121 total points, highlighted by eleven first-place votes of 12 possible. Finishing second was the reigning MAC champion, Akron, with the single remaining first-place vote; followed by Kent State, Toledo and Bowling Green.

Alongside its first-place finish, Ohio saw three players win All-MAC Team honors. Senior forward AJ Clayton landed on the first team after a season where he averaged 12.0 points per game and 1.8 blocks per game.

On the second team, graduate student guard Shereef Mithcell and redshirt sophomore guard AJ Brown earned selections. Mitchell averaged 13.3 points per game in his 2023-24 campaign. Brown missed most of the previous season following a MAC All-Freshman Team campaign in 2022-23.
