Jake Shane’s 'Therapuss Live' show is lively, entertaining experience

Jake Shane is a comedic influencer who is relatable and knows how to make a group laugh. He got his start by making skits on TikTok, and after reaching a good amount of internet fame, he began his podcast, “Therapuss.”

The first episode of “Therapuss” aired in January and the podcast consists of Shane going through viewers' struggles or issues they may have while also connecting them to his struggles and triumphs. People can send in their issues and can even leave their numbers. Some episodes feature different guests as well, such as Tate McRae and Lucy Hale.

The successful podcast launched Shane into even more fame, leading to his current tour. The Therapuss Live with Jake Shane tour is enjoyable and great entertainment, with funny jokes and Shane’s sassy personality filling the stage.

When I attended and watched the live show in Indianapolis Sunday, Oct. 27, it felt very similar to the recorded versions I have watched or heard. However, the tour felt more personal and real.

Shane began by taking a shot of vodka and then going through what he was mad about that day. He discussed his hatred for San Francisco because he has yet to have a good time there. He was also angry he used his vape when he was attempting to quit for good. He is not one to filter himself and is very transparent.

He then began showing past tweets of people making fun of him and his attendance at the 2024 People’s Choice Awards. He laughed along with the users and pointed out what made the hate comments funny. He also discussed how he turned this bad situation into a good one after people were talking about him publicly in a negative light. He posted these comments on his Instagram page and saw it as a form of attention he did not have to be down about.

Next, he responded to the audience's complaints about their life. He read off some questions sent in using the QR code on the screen before the show. His reactions to people consistently got a good amount of laughs as he sometimes gives some out-of-pocket advice.

He is easy to relate to and often has a good show or movie to connect to a person’s trying situation. There is also a suggested “no phones rule” for this section so audience members could stand if they want to talk more about their struggles and feel comfortable doing so. He made a large crowd feel like a close hangout with friends.

He also had his friends, Julia and Payton, come on stage, making the conversation feel even more personal. Since it was his 25th birthday, this show felt as if we were all his friends at his birthday party.

Julia and Payton showed a video they made for his birthday and the crowd sang to him. The three of them also discussed boys, “situationships” and Coachella nightmares. He showed pictures of his 2019 outfits and described his college life. The audience got to learn so much more about an already open public figure. He then closed the show by blasting a song he wrote about being hungover and dancing around the stage.

The show consisted of jokes, relatable references and realness. Jake Shane is an influencer with a bold, creative personality and his energy can be felt from 20 rows away for the entire hour and a half. The Therapuss Live tour is an experience full of laughter and excitement.
