Athens drought upgraded to extreme levels
Since Aug. 2, Athens has experienced a D4 exceptional drought level, which may cause widespread crop/pasture losses and shortages of water in reservoirs. Some of the effects already caused by the drought are mostly within local farming communities with farmers having issues concerning food for the animals, as well as the hocking being nearly dried up close to Logan and the State Fire Marshal implementing an open-burn ban. During these times, the U.S. Department of Agriculture Farm Service Agency plans to assist farmers financially through FSA emergency loan assistance, a webinar discussing resources and other disaster assistance programs. Daphne acknowledges that 54% of students have doubts about choosing the right major while dealing with financial instability and student loans due the economy being slowed down by the pandemic. Kristin Diki’s experience is mentioned by Daphne, detailing her experience of becoming a teacher, realizing she wanted to pursue her passion of teaching and retelling the experience of her father being unhappy as a lawyer.
