Editorial: JD Vance falsely depicts, misrepresents Appalachia

  • Opinion: Senator JD Vance’s "Hillbilly Elegy" reinforces harmful stereotypes about Appalachia, depicting its people as unintelligent and responsible for their struggles, according to The Post’s Editorial Board. The memoir fails to address systemic issues like economic exploitation and the impact of the opioid crisis, while also neglecting the region’s rich history and culture. Vance’s portrayal risks perpetuating misconceptions and influencing public perception and policy in a way that overlooks Appalachia’s complex realities. For the full story, click here.
