Faculty senate resolution allows students to bring children to class

  • The Ohio University Faculty Senate recently passed a resolution aimed at accommodating students with caregiving responsibilities, addressing the lack of on-campus childcare. This resolution, introduced by the Educational Policy and Student Affairs Committee, will create a task force to develop recommendations for integrating children into class settings and addressing childcare-related inequities. The move responds to concerns about the limited availability and high cost of childcare, particularly affecting students and faculty with young children. Click here for more.

Simple Science: NASA astronaut situation reflects media tropes

  • NASA astronauts Sunita Williams and Barry Wilmore are currently stuck on the International Space Station due to issues with Boeing's Starliner spacecraft, which developed multiple faults during their mission. Originally scheduled to return after eight days, the astronauts' stay has been extended by nearly nine months as they wait for a replacement SpaceX capsule to bring them home. Despite the dramatic real-life scenario, it has garnered relatively little media attention compared to its fictional counterparts like "The Martian" and "Alien," partly because the astronauts are safe and not facing immediate life-threatening challenges. • Environmental activist Jenny Morgan has launched a Facebook page to document and highlight discrepancies in hydraulic fracturing accident reports from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources and the Ohio Oil and Gas Association.
