J.D. Vance talks to supports in Youngstown, Ohio during the "Save America" rally a head of former president Donald Trump on September 17, 2022.

Trump chooses J.D. Vance to be running mate in November

Former President Donald Trump chose Ohio Senator J.D. Vance on Monday to join his name on the November general election ballot, according to the Associated Press.

The pair were officially nominated to the GOP ballot on the first day of the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, according to the AP.

“After lengthy deliberation and thought, and considering the tremendous talents of many others, I have decided that the person best suited to assume the position of Vice President of the United States is Senator J.D. Vance of the Great State of Ohio,” according to Trump’s Truth Social post.

Vance is joining the ballot at an “extraordinary” moment in American history, the AP said, referring to the recent assassination attempt on Trump.

The 39-year-old is the only millennial on the major-party ballot.

Vance suggested Trump’s assassination attempt during the rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on Saturday was President Joe Biden’s fault in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter.

“The central premise of the Biden campaign is that President Donald Trump is an authoritarian fascist who must be stopped at all costs. That rhetoric led directly to President Trump's attempted assassination,” Vance wrote.

According to the AP, the suspected shooter’s motive is unknown.
