Hunter Biden, President Joe Biden’s son, was convicted on three felony charges Tuesday for lying on a mandatory gun-purchase form for a revolver bought in 2018, according to the Associated Press.
Hunter Biden said he was not illegally using or addicted to drugs on the gun-purchase form, according to AP News. President Joe Biden claims his son has been sober since 2019.
According to AP News, jurors also found Biden guilty of two other charges: lying to a federally licensed gun dealer and illegally owning the gun for 11 days.
Key trial witnesses, Hunter Biden’s ex-wife and a former girlfriend said they found drug paraphernalia including crack pipes, according to AP News.
Hunter Biden’s lawyer Abbe Lowell said they will “continue to vigorously pursue all the legal challenges available,” according to AP News.
President Joe Biden said he would accept the outcome of his son’s case and “continue to respect the judicial process as Hunter considers an appeal,” AP News noted.
Biden faces up to 25 years in federal prison. However, AP News said it would be unlikely that he would receive the maximum sentence because this was his first offense.
AP News said the judge hasn’t set a sentencing date.
