Fresh Finds Friday: New EDM, pop singles from Gesaffelstein, Frances Forever

Happy Friday! With the end of the week in sight, it has been another week with new music. This past week, we have new music from Gesaffelstein and Bien et Toi, among others.

Here are five new songs or albums you should check out this week:

"GAMMA" by Gesaffelstein

In his first piece of music in five years, the French producer Gesaffelstien explores how far you can stretch bass, experimental sounds and synthwave-styled synth melodies in this 11-song record. The dark and brooding lyrics in "Hard dreams," connect the idea of being a slave to digital media and the concept of the Hollywood dream, while the distorted chaos in "Psycho" meets its conclusion in "Emet." All of these songs feel entirely new, yet they also sound highly familiar to EDM fans, aiming at the digitalization of our modern world.

"Baby Bangs (feat. dacelynn)" by Frances Forever

Frances Forever returns after three years with "Baby Bangs," featuring fellow queer artist dacelynn. The song has a catchy hook that's easy to start grooving to. The lyrics describe what it's like to have a crush and the emotional journey that comes with it. On Instagram, Frances Forever shared: "I wrote baby bangs in October 2022 and I knew it was a special project, my roommates would be going around the house singing ‘cuz I'm thinkin about you all the damn time I wrote a little earworm."

"So Long" by Bien et Toi, Paris Texas

Gianluca Buccellati, known best by his stage name Bien et Toi, is a Grammy-nominated producer and songwriter. He's best known for his work with artists such as Arlo Parks and his album, "London Safari." Now, he's returned with a collaboration with Paris Texas.

Buccellati explains to WORDPLAY, "Working with Paris Texas on their album "Mid Air" was an enriching experience. They bring a distinctive way of storytelling to this song and I was eager to explore a more relaxed vibe with them."

"Pasadena" by Quinn XCII

"Welcome to Mustard Mike's," Quinn XCII captioned in an X, formerly known as Twitter, video, teasing his now-released single "Pasadena," which is one of three confirmed "delicious" EPs he is set to release. The singer also announced the EPs will be titled "Breakfast," "Lunch" and “Dinner."

"Pasadena" is "Breakfast,“ which features laid-back summer vibes with breezy guitar work and lyrics discussing the simplicities of having breakfast for dinner and waking up hungover simply because they are not kids anymore. The song comes with a music video you can watch here, and you can expect the songs representing "Lunch" and "Dinner" to both be released sometime this year.

"Sweet Love" by Myles Smith

Rising within the music industry is Toronto native Myles Smith, releasing his EP "You Promised A Life Time." The EP features "Sweet Love," a song that navigates the peaks and valleys that come with relationships. Smith explains that the person he loves deeply is the air and oxygen he breathes, among other raw and emotional lyrics. The song features a music video, which shows two souls holding hands, indicating a connection between two lovers.
