Women’s Basketball: What to know for Ohio’s regular season finale against Miami

Ohio (11-17 overall, 8-9 Mid-American Conference) will travel to Oxford on Saturday for the final regular season game for both teams. After Wednesday night’s games, the MAC tournament field is set, and with Ohio clinching and Miami (8-20 overall, 5-12 Mid-American Conference) being eliminated, the implications for the game are next to nothing.

However, the Battle of the Bricks is always an exciting matchup, so here is all you need to know for Saturday’s matchup:

Miami Notes

The Redhawks have had a somewhat disappointing season under first-year Head Coach Glenn Box. Miami has been eliminated from the MAC tournament with a game left to play and is currently riding a three-game losing streak. The offense could have been better during that stretch, scoring less than 50 points twice in that span.

The first time these two teams faced off in Athens, it was a comfortable win for Ohio, holding Miami to just 55 points en route to a 16-point victory.

Player to Watch: Kennedi Watkins

Watkins has been coming into her own over her last few games, especially most recently in the game against Akron on Wednesday. Watkins put up 24 points on 8-15 shooting from the field, leading Ohio to a MAC tournament-clinching victory.

The junior guard has found a rhythm in the paint, getting great looks at the rim in the post and driving to the basket. She has also been expanding her range, knocking down two 3-pointers against Akron.
