DII Hockey: Ohio dominates both sides of the puck against Ohio State

Both sides of Ohio’s DII hockey team stepped up this weekend, defeating Ohio State in the first game with a score of 8-2 and keeping a close game out of reach with good defense in the second game, with the final score marking 2-1. Ohio bolstered its record by two more wins, giving them the record of 15-7.

Ohio’s offense was a big part of this two-game series as they outscored Ohio State 10-3 over the weekend, scoring an average of slightly over three goals for every score Ohio State could put in the net. In the first game, they did not give Ohio State’s defense much breathing room and were constantly on that end, connecting many of their shots to result in points.

The second game allowed Ohio a similar bombardment against Ohio State. The shots did not connect, but the pressure of a barrage of shots that could come at any minute kept Ohio State on its toes and not getting on offense as much. The Buckeyes didn’t have much opportunity to score until the third period, and by then it was too late to make a serious comeback.

Ohio’s defenseman, Ethan Tamborski, and winger, Ryley Scanlon, both had big games in their own right, scoring three goals each. Scanlon scored all three of his goals in the first game. Tamborski had two goals in the first game and one goal in the second game.

Ohio’s defense also played a major part in the win, as they only allowed three goals throughout both games to Ohio State. Ohio had 30 saves in the first game alone and could take away a lot of opportunities by Ohio State by making sure the puck stayed on the opposite side of the rink, away from Ohio’s goal.

Ohio’s entire team looked complete in these two games, dominating both sides of the rink and not allowing Ohio State to escape their grasp.
