Artist Spotlight: Ceara Cavalieri's music is an auditory reflection of Southern California

Ceara Cavalieri is a singer/songwriter from Southern California whose musical style is an auditory reflection of the place she calls home. She has released 10 singles and several tracks in collaboration with other artists. According to a press release, Cavalieri's new single, "My Favorite," is set to release on Jan. 26.

Cavalieri graduated from UCLA with a degree in psychology but has since decided to pursue music full-time. She has loved music since she was three years old and began learning to sing. As a shy teenager, Cavalieri started writing songs as an outlet to express her thoughts and feelings.

The artist's first single “Say Something was released in 2019. Since then, Cavalieri has received acclaim from Ones to Watch, Wonderland, LA Weekly and more. Her music has been added to Spotify playlists SALT, Fresh Finds and Teen Beats, and her collection of Spotify monthly listeners has grown to 98,000. Cavalieri recently supported Leah Kate on her "Super Over" U.S. tour and will be touring again across Europe in May 2024.

Cavalieri's style has varied throughout her career. Although she maintains a similar lyrical style and vocal quality throughout her work, she has allowed time and progress to alter the genres under which she writes and performs. Her early work begins with the classic pop of the 2010s, and her upcoming single is a distinct combination of hyperpop and alternative rock.

“Say Something” introduces Cavalieri's work with a bang. The infectious beat and catchy chorus are emblematic of early 2010s radio pop. At the same time, the bridge takes the track to a more serious level and exemplifies the depth of the singer’s voice. “Trust Somebodyis similar, with a clever rhyme scheme and increasing energy from an enthusiastic drum machine.

"Candy is the first glimpse into another side of Cavalieri. The tone is slightly more sultry than it is bubbly, and the reverberating drum machine lends an air of EDM to the song's background. “I Wish falls into a similar category of almost-pop, but with an alternative edge. The song introduces plucked strings to the background instrumentals, helping it stand out from other songs.

Later in her discography is where her rock influence lies. “Used and “Liar Liar are excellent examples of how Cavalieri utilized electric guitar and other rock instruments to alter her style. The lyrics and vocals still maintain the pop-princess persona she exemplifies in her early work, but Cavalieri demonstrates the flip side of her personality through these later releases.

This alternative side is also expressed through her cover of Green Day's "Boulevard Of Broken Dreams," in collaboration with EQRIC, HAYASA G and Thivas. More songs she has released alongside other artists include "The Cure" and "Midnight Sky."

Cavalieri's upcoming single "My Favorite" is a cheeky and playful ode to her love affair with a "bad boy." The relationship was toxic, but Cavalieri sings of the exhilarating feelings associated with that kind of love.

"The song is about the adventures I experienced while dating this bad boy and the trouble we got into together. When you start falling for a bad boy, you know it probably won't end well, but it's so fun and exhilarating that you don't care because the highs are so good," Cavalieri said. "When I really like someone, I am the queen of ignoring red flags, and I knew this guy was showing some warning signs, but at the moment, I didn't care because he was my favorite person."

"My Favorite" is a fast-paced and succinct depiction of good and bad emotions. The song is a culmination of the different styles Cavalieri has demonstrated proficiency in while adding a new "bad girl" edge to her discography of pop music. The rock instrumentals and pop vocalizations blend nicely to create a riveting musical experience.

Cavalieri has worked hard to create a distinct style in the music industry. Her passion for performance and range of experiences have made her a beacon of infectious and candidly relatable pop and rock music.
