Thanksgiving fire results in five deaths

Nov. 23, at around 7:30 a.m., five people, including two children, were killed in a mobile home fire on Rainbow Lake Road in Athens County, according to WOWK 13

The news station reported that The Richland Area Fire Department, Athens City Fire Department, Albany Volunteer Fire Department, York Township Volunteer Fire Department, The Athens County Sheriff’s Office, Athens County EMS, Athens County Coroner’s Office and the State of Ohio Fire Marshal’s Office all responded to the scene.

Upon arrival, Richland Area Fire Department Chief Dale Sinclair said two mobile homes were in flames and an outbuilding caught fire. Soon after, they found five residents deceased.

“With children, it adds a whole different dynamic to it. Especially if you’ve got small children or small grandchildren,” Sinclair told WOWK 13.

The Richland Area Fire Department said two additional people were taken to the hospital Nov. 24.

As of Nov. 24, the names of the deceased have not been released, and there is an ongoing investigation into the cause of the fire, the news site released.
