Hockey: The Bobcats head to the Windy City for Chicago Classic

Ohio is looking for victory in this series after being swept by Liberty last weekend

Ohio will look to the bright lights of the big city this weekend and hope to come out with a set of wins. Liberty proved to be a challenging opponent last weekend, handing Ohio an overtime loss and then defeating 2-5 on Saturday.

Those pair of losses came after Ohio swept Syracuse in Bird Arena, led by the energy of the raucous crowd and an improved ability to move the puck down the ice. The Bobcats have proved themselves time and time again at home, but have yet to be able to sweep an away series.

They look to change that as they head to the Chicago Classic Showcase this weekend, a series of games featuring 8 different ACHA hockey teams. Ohio will take on one of its biggest rivals on Sunday, Minot State University. Minot State was last year’s ACHA National Champion. Ohio looks to continue its efforts to create a cleaner offense while working out technical difficulties from a defensive standpoint.

Here is everything you need to know before Ohio heads to the Windy City:

Series Information:

Opponents: University of Nevada Las-Vegas(11-1), Arizona State University (7-5-1) and Minot State University (13-1)

Date and Time: Nov. 17, 18 and 19 at 5:30 p.m., 5:40 p.m. and 1:00 p.m.

Location: Canlan Sports, Romeoville IL

Ohio faced UNLV in 2017 and 2019, winning both times. Ohio last played Arizona State in 2016, and Minot State is one of Ohio’s most heated rivals, with a split series between the two happening last season.

Player to watch:

Hollander Thompson was one of the Bobcats' top performers last season, playing in 34 games and earning the fifth-most points on the team. Despite a slow start to his offensive production this season, Thompson scored two goals against Syracuse and is ready to continue his play-making.
