As soon as Ohio and Calvin hit the ice Friday night, it was clear that the game was going to be a fierce battle. Ending the game with a 2-3 loss, the Bobcats have improvements to make for the remainder of their season. Head coach Lionel Mauron recognized the struggles that the team faced in this particular game.
“I think we’re playing 25 really good individuals, but we’re not a team,” Mauron said.
Despite the pressure for the Bobcats to overcome in overtime, Mauron doesn’t believe that playing under pressure is what led to the loss.
“Honestly, I don’t feel like the pressures have any impact on how we play,” Mauron said. “I just think that we’re choosing to play as individuals rather than as a team.”
With back-to-back goals from Aidan Grieco and Hollander Thompson, it is hard to refute the fact that the Bobcats' roster holds individual talent. However, Mauron knows that in order to defeat a team with the defensive tactics Calvin displayed, the Bobcats need to find cohesion on the ice.
“I think we need to come out with a new mentality,” Mauron said. “Right now it’s a little bit of looking at ourselves in the mirror and figuring out that we can’t win on our own.”
Mauron came out of the game aware of what he expects from the team.
“I think that the main message is everybody needs to do their job and trust that the guy next to them is going to do the same,” Mauron said. “And then we can work as a team.”
