The U.S. Department of Federal Student Aid announced the Free Application for Federal Student Aid for the 2024-25 aid years will open in December 2023 instead of the usual Oct. 1, according to an FSA release.
The application is being updated to expand eligibility for federal student aid and to streamline the process, according to the release. The opening date has not been announced.
Ohio University’s Student Financial Aid and Scholarships sent a university-wide email Monday to let students know about the change.
According to the email, the FAFSA Simplification Act made changes to the application, which is causing the delay.
The university also reminds students that the 2023-24 FAFSA application is still open for students to submit. OU’s financial aid office can answer students’ questions about the delayed FAFSA at 740-593-4141 or financial.aid@ohio.edu.
