Weekender Briefs: Music acts are a must-see this weekend

Friday, April 28

29th Annual Seabury Quinn, Jr. Playwrights’ Festival will feature plays by Eryn Elyse McVay and Steven Strafford, representing the culmination of the work of Ohio University’s MFA playwrights. The event will take place in Elizabeth Baker Theater, located at 19 S. College St., and starts at 8 p.m.

Attendance: $5

Kushinda/Ritos de Pasaje Mixer by the Division of Diversity and Inclusion will be from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Athens Uncorked, located at 14 Station St. The event will celebrate the degree completion of multicultural undergraduate and graduate students. Food and refreshments will be provided.

Attendance: Free

BFA Capstone Short Films is from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Athena Cinema, 20 S. Court St. Presented by the School of Film, the event will showcase five short films from senior capstone film students.

Saturday, April 29

Finals Fest Therapy Dog Visit will take place at Baker University Center 305, located at 1 Park Place. Therapy dogs Dug and Penny from Counseling and Psychological Services will be visiting attendees to help relieve stress and anxiety before finals. The event is from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Athens Community Music School Honors Recital will take place in Glidden Hall, 3 Health Center Drive. Starting at 6 p.m., attendees can watch honors students from the Athens Community Music School perform the pieces they’ve been working on this spring. The event is hosted by the College of Fine Arts.

Sunday, April 30

Day Bouldering Trip will be from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. this Sunday, hosted by Outdoor Pursuits. Staff will teach attendees how to boulder, go on challenging climbs and educate people on how to be safe while climbing and spotting. The event includes bouldering gear, instructors and transportation to and from the site.

Attendance: $15

Caroline Beckman & Muirne Mitchell Violin Recital will start at 8 p.m. in Glidden Hall. The performance will feature the violin work of graduate students Caroline Beckman and Muirne Mitchell.

Attendance: Free

Wilco will be performing at Templeton-Blackburn Alumni Memorial Auditorium. From 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., attendees can enjoy the music of the indie band as they record an episode for NPR Music in Athens by Mountain Stage.
