Baseball: What to know for Southern Illinois

Ohio will travel to Southern Illinois for a two-day, three-game series this weekend. 

The Bobcats (2-5) dropped a four-game series at Western Kentucky last weekend but managed to avoid a sweep thanks to a 6-4 Sunday evening victory over the Hilltoppers. 

Southern Illinois enters the series having dropped five of its last six games, including its most recent contest, a midweek 11-3 loss to Saint Louis.

Ohio last faced Southern Illinois in a four-game series in 2017 that was a split between the two teams. Prior to that, the Bobcats dropped a 2014 neutral site matchup 7-3, thanks to a six-run eighth inning from the Salukis.

Player to Watch

Colin Kasperbauer — The fifth-year infielder enters the series with a team-high four-game hit streak, having logged a knock in each game of last week’s WKU series. He also scored two runs and drove in three in Bowling Green, Kentucky, last weekend.
