This past Sunday rang in yet another successful Grammy season, and for those who tuned in for the awards the show was as eventful as years previous. But for those of us who excitedly anticipated another night of glamorous red carpet looks the 2023 Grammy Awards were… a bit of a letdown.
The Grammy’s red carpet event is known for its often eccentric looks as musical artists are the first to take risks and the last to care about judgment, yet the 2023 carpet brought an abundance of mediocre looks and an unusually high rate of bad ones.
With that, here are some of the best and worst dressed at the 2023 Grammy Awards:
The worst
Blac Chyna
Some looks truly speak for themselves, and Blac Chyna’s all-black, bird-like moment certainly turned some heads. Although experimenting is extremely encouraged in the fashion world, Chyna's black swan rip-off was nothing but a miss.
Shania Twain
Shania Twain’s black and white spotted suit and matching hat were an example of a flattering idea and an awful execution. The spotted pattern and bright red hair did Twain no justice and is definitely one of the more upsetting looks from this year's Grammy’s.
Harry Styles
As painful as it is to criticize anything about Harry Styles, especially coming off his huge Album of the Year win; Harry’s red carpet look was giving circus clown chic. While tattoos as accessories are extremely favorable, we all know he could have done so much more. The multi-colored sequin jumpsuit was underwhelming and overhyped. Let’s just hope we have no more Harry misses in our future.
The best
Jennifer Lopez
As always, Jennifer Lopez gave the Grammy’s stage exactly what the red carpet was missing. Lopez made a surprise appearance on stage in an elegant yet beautifully risky blue Gucci dress with diamond details. Her glam complimented the look exceptionally proving yet again that when fashion needs someone to serve, JLo is there on a silver platter.
Cardi B
With one of the most fan-favorite outfits of the night, Cardi B walked the carpet in a look from Gaurav Gupta's Spring 2023 collection. The asymmetrical sculpture-like dress fit like a glove and made Cardi B arguably the best dressed of the entire night. Ultimately, it was a classic example of the kind of boldness that the Grammy’s carpet is known for.
Steve Lacy
The “Bad Habit” singer showed up to the 2023 Grammys wearing all Saint Laurent and looked absolutely incredible. From the sunglasses to the clutch this look was classic, chic and a win, and so was Lacy himself, receiving his first-ever Grammy for Best Urban Contemporary Album. It’s safe to assume he had a pretty good night. Round of applause for Steve Lacy.
