Athens City Council met on Monday to hear from the Planning and Development committee.
The Planning and Development committee heard from Geoff Greenfield, founder of Third Sun Kokosing Solar, who is currently working on the ongoing Solar Array project.
Greenfield said the solar project will offset 1,834 metric tons of carbon dioxide annually and 55,020 metric tons of carbon dioxide over its 30-year design life.
Deputy Service-Safety Director Andrew Chiki said they have been working diligently over the last year and a half to get that project right and to work out the details of a power purchase agreement that will be acceptable.
The project is currently in the final engineering phase.
