Field Hockey: A look at Ohio's weekend opponents

Ohio continues its season with a pair of home matches, its first two matches in Athens in almost two weeks.

Here is everything you need to know about Ohio’s opponents:

Opponent: Kent State

Kent State is currently 4-4 and coming off a 7-0 win over Ball State a week ago. Kent State out shot Ball State 23-3 with 16 shots on goal.

The Flashes are currently coached by Kyle DeSandes-Moyer, who enters her fourth season as head coach. Back in 2019 DeSandes-Moyer was named Mid-American Conference Coach of the Year in her first season after winning the MAC regular season title.

Maia Sarrabayrouse currently leads the Golden Flashes with 10 points so far this season and recorded a goal and two assists against the Cardinals.

The Bobcats will take on the Spartans this weekend for the 'Turn It Gold' match. The Spartans currently stand at eighth in the Big Ten with an 0-3 conference record and a 4-4 record overall.

Michigan State is coming off a 7-2 loss to No. 6 Maryland in which its only two goals came in the fourth quarter. Keeper Monique Jardell put up a strong fight with a career-high 12 saves.

Netherlands native Isa van der Weij leads the team in season goals so far with four, and scored the only two goals in last week’s loss to Maryland. Hannah Jarvie, Ellie Rutherford and Emma O’Neill also have three goals each this season.

Ohio Player to Watch

Mijntje Ligtenberg was named MAC Co-Offensive Player of the Week and has led the Bobcats in goals this season with six, as well as 15 total points.
