Maybe you’re feeling like Nicki Minaj when back in 2015 Miley Cyrus misspoke about her in the press, causing the rapper to call her out for her comments during the MTV Video Music Awards (Photo provided via @LifesPrism on Twitter).

5 pop culture moments that fit the vibe of fall semester so far

We’re about halfway through the fall semester, and let’s be real, it’s been harder than anticipated. Maybe you’re taking more classes, getting readjusted to waking up early in the morning or dealing with an assignment that’s just too complicated, and the new school year has barely given you a moment to stop and take everything in.

Don’t worry, most Ohio University students feel the same, and why not trace the mundane, strange and straight-up hilarious moments of this semester back to pop culture? Here’s five pop culture moments that fit the vibe of fall semester so far:

Will Smith slapping Chris Rock at this year’s Academy Awards

Honestly, it feels like fall semester has genuinely slapped us all in the face. Unlike last year when the COVID-19 pandemic prevented in-person classes and exams, this year, we’re expected to show up on time to class? Early in the morning? And take an exam with a room full of strangers all at the same time? What happened to sleeping in and being able to join class virtually? Oh well, maybe we do need to wake up and be productive, hence Will Smith slapping Chris Rock at the 2022 Academy Awards.

“Miley, what’s good?” - Nicki Minaj

You’ve probably had a moment this semester when someone or something really makes you mad. Whether it’s a professor, classmate or an assignment, these last six weeks have all caused us to lose our cool, which is totally understandable. Maybe you’re feeling like Nicki Minaj when back in 2015 Miley Cyrus misspoke about her in the press, causing the rapper to call her out for her comments during the MTV Video Music Awards.

Abby Lee Miller speeding away in her wheelchair to file a police report

Okay, this is honestly another total vibe of fall semester. I’ve definitely wanted to run away from my busy schedule and hide out in my room, and it sure feels like we all are going to rip our hair out at some point in the middle of the semester. Sometimes, running away from your problems is an essential part of your college career, and it’s totally normal to procrastinate and ignore student life. Right?

Lady Gaga screaming during her concert

We’ve all been here before. We’re fed up with classes, sick of endless papers and projects, especially group ones, and we all just want to collectively let out a big scream. In this case, Lady Gaga screaming “What the f---!” during one of her Las Vegas residency shows perfectly encapsulates this feeling. Just know it’s okay to be stressed and angry about school, as it’s bound to happen during fall semester.

Travis Scott falling in autotune

Yes, you will fall going up the stairs walking around campus at some point or trip over a brick on Court Street’s uneven roads, but that’s part of the fall semester experience at Ohio University. Travis Scott falling in autotune is a mood if I’ve ever seen one, proving that we all go through a moment of utter embarrassment on campus during the new school year. Trust me, if you haven’t tripped a couple times and gotten a few scrapes walking on campus, you’re not a true Bobcat.
