The polls for the 2022 Ohio primary closed Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. Athens residents were able to vote for both local and state government officials to represent each political party in the general election in November.
Below are the election results of the 2022 Ohio primary, according to the unofficial Athens County Board of Elections results. The margin by which the individuals won the primary represents the percentage of voters from Athens County who voted for the candidate.

Ohio governor
Republican candidate: Mike DeWine with nearly 50% of the vote
Democratic candidate: Nan Whaley with nearly 75% of the vote
Ohio senator
Republican candidate: JD Vance with around 36% of the vote
Democratic candidate: Tim Ryan with 63% of the vote
District 12 congressional seat
Republican candidate: Troy Balderson with nearly 75% of the vote
Democratic candidate: Michael Fletcher with 52.89% of the vote
Secretary of state
Republican candidate: Frank LaRose with 63% of the vote
Democratic candidate: Chelsea Clark (unopposed)
Athens tax levy
Passed with 59.42% of voters voting in favor of the 0.1% increase in income tax.
