Best Green Beer Day 2022 deals and specials in Athens

Every Ohio University student knows the Wednesday before spring break in Athens isn’t your average hump day: it’s Green Beer Day.

As much as OU students would like to take credit for one of the most fun weekdays of all of Spring Semester, unfortunately, the holiday actually originated in Oxford, Ohio, at our good ol’ friendly rival school, Miami University.

Regardless of its origins, though, both Bobcats and RedHawks can agree on one thing: it’s a helluva a good time filled with a lot of, well, green beer.

Celebrate this year’s Green Beer Day accordingly by heading Uptown to Court Street wearing anything and everything green you own, taking advantage of all the best deals and drinking the best mediocre green beer Athens has to offer at some of the best bars around.

Stephen’s On Court

Let’s face it: we all wish Destroyer night was every night at Stephen’s, but the good news is Green Beer Day makes an exception for an all-day Green Destroyer kind of day. Stephen’s will open at 2 p.m. Wednesday, leaving plenty of time to knock down as many of these killer drinks as you can — and if they taste anything like last year’s, you’ll be sure to want more than one. If you plan on staying out all day, make sure to stop by Stephen’s not only for a destroyer but for some food, too, before the kitchen closes at 8:30 p.m.

North End Kitchen and Bar

Fuel up for the big day accordingly with some grub from North End at 2 p.m. On Wednesday, North End will be offering The Trio (chips/guacamole/hot queso/choice of salsa for $7.95), chips & salsa ($2.95) and chips & guacamole ($4.95) as starters. For burritos, try the GBD special, “Green Beer Day Burrito” (Mexican ground beef/black beans/shredded lettuce/chopped tomatoes/Monterey Jack cheese/choice of salsa for $5.95) or the Court Street ($7.95), chicken tinga fajita ($7.95) or guac burrito ($8.50). The North Ender ($8.95), the basic ($7.95) and Mexican ground beef ($8.95) are also available to order. For dessert, churro cups ($3). And the part you have been waiting for: discounted frozen green margs! It doesn’t get much better than this.

Courtside Pizza

If there’s one place on Court Street that you can count on filling up the minute the clock hits noon Wednesday, it’s Courtside. Not only is it Green Beer Day, but it’s also slice night. Somehow, good things always seem to come in pairs when you need it most. Enjoy $0.50 green beer pints of either Bud or Miller Light.

The J Bar

Likewise to Courtside, J Bar will be open at 12 p.m. and offer $0.50 off all green beer Bud and Miller Light Pints, (but minus the pizza slices). The good thing, though, is that “the rumple cave” is just a step away from Souvlaki’s if you’re still kicking by the time Souvlaki’s opens.

Lucky’s Sports Tavern

Calling all Bud lovers. Lucky’s will be offering $5 liquor pitchers in accordance with its typical “Liquor Pitcher Wednesday,” along with $7.50 Bud Light + Labatt green beer pitchers. If the hangover isn’t too bad Thursday (or even if it is), keep drinking and celebrate Lucky’s Crown Royal promo from 9 p.m. to 10 p.m. The drink features include Crown Royal Vanilla + cola, Crown Royal Regal Apple + cranberry and Crown Royal Canadian Whiskey + lemonade.

The Pigskin Bar and Grille

Don’t skip over Pigskin this Green Beer Day, as it has some of the best deals and offers yet and will be open bright and early at 11 a.m. for those who would classify themselves as a varsity team drinker. At Pig, they are offering $4 Green Beer, $2 JELL-O shots, and 1/2 off its wing Wednesday deal. The party doesn’t stop there, though! From 9 p.m. to 1 a.m., soak up Green Beer Day Club Night with DJ Scalf, sponsored by Brick Life. Let’s just say, if you’re not careful, The Pigskin could get dangerous.

The OverHang

As previously said, good things really do come in pairs. Green Beer Day and karaoke night? Say less. The OverHang will also be serving $1.50 well whiskey and $3 Irish Shamrock shots. Come hang with them today!
