As we reach the midpoint of the semester, there’s a light at the end of the tunnel. With the home stretch to spring break beginning, we could all use some new music to help power through the week. Luckily, we found some tunes to keep you energized during these long days and nights.
While everyone has their favorite genre of music, we’ve made a playlist that will appeal to any mood or preference. Below are new songs that are perfect for walking to class, working out at the gym, sitting around in your dorm or cranking out those last-minute papers. “Nail Tech” by Jack Harlow
Jack Harlow, the rapper from Louisville, Kentucky, has become a big name in the past few years since the release of his hit single “What’s Poppin,” which joined the No. 2 spot on the Billboard Hot 100, according to Uproxx. While Harlow spent 2021 enjoying his newfound success, he started 2022 with his new single “Nail Tech.”
“Love’s Train” by Silk Sonic
Silk Sonic, the duo featuring Bruno Mars and Anderson. Paak, released An Evening With Silk Sonic that gathered four Grammy nominations in 2021. Silk Sonic's return in 2022 comes with a cover of the classic Valentine's Day single "Love's Train.”
“F**k it, I’m the man” by SEB
SEB has come a long way from his freestyle days inspired by the raw emotion in his songs like “Boys Don’t Cry” and “god of the sunsets.” To serve as the introduction to his style of music now in 2022, “F**k it I’m the man” discusses being unique and holding your ground. “This song is about standing on your own and living your life according to you and only you,” he said in a Mom + Pop interview.
“AMAZING” by Rex Orange County
Alexander O'Connor, also known as Rex Orange County, is best known for his songs "A Song About Being Sad" and "Corduroy Dreams,” as well as albums such as Pony. The singer has released his first single of 2022, "AMAZING," which is an upbeat ode to falling in love. Look out for his upcoming album, Who Cares, which releases March 11.
”Blow The Roof” by Louis the Child, Kasbo, EVAN GIIA
Louis the Child, the electronic duo consisting of members Freddy Kennett and Robby Hauldren, is best known for their collaborations with artists such as Future, Quinn XCII, MAX and many more. They have released their latest adventure, “Blow The Roof,” with Swedish producer Kasbo and singer-songwriter Evan Giia. In an interview with Damixx, Louis the Child explained, “The song is about believing in yourself and following your dreams.”
“Trouble” by Troye Sivan
While many know Troye Sivan for his hits such as “FOOLS” and “My My My!,” he began his acting career in the recent movie Three Months. Sivan recruited LA-based producer Jay Som for the soundtrack and creating “Trouble.” Sivan wrote on Instagram: “Revisited my full 17-year-old 2011 Tumblr-core mindset to write this song.” Three Months is now available to stream on Paramount Plus.
“Want It Bad” by Kid Cudi, Nigo
Kid Cudi, the rapper hailing from Cleveland, Ohio, is known for his songs “Day N Nite” and “Pursuit of Happiness.” He’s starting off 2022 with his new song “Want iIt Bad,” which charges forward with pulsating bass and the otherworldly production Cudi is known for.
The aura of the song is solidified in the music video with Nigo and Cudi driving around Paris and living it up at a house party. Watch the full music video here.
