With the spike in COVID-19, quarantine is unfortunately almost inevitable at this point, and it can be scary and lonely. It’s OK to take comfort in binging your favorite TV show or movie series and take the newfound free time to do whatever you want. With the long list of things that can’t be done, it might be hard to come up with some productive ideas to do during isolation.
In order to stay productive, here are six activities to fill your time:
Update your resume and LinkedIn
With the looming deadline of internship applications, isolation would be the perfect time to update your resume. It’s an easy task to toss aside in everyday life, but with all of the time on your hands, it is a good idea to get ahead for when you’re next looking for a job. Try changing the format to give your resume a new face. While collecting your new experiences, make sure to add them to your LinkedIn account to inform employers.
Set goals for the new year
With the new year, it’s the best time to set your resolutions for the upcoming year, but setting goals can be done at any time. Whether you are isolated in January or June, you can take the time to set daily, weekly or monthly goals. It can be something like a to-do list or a more long-term task, like learning a new language or a new hobby you have put off.
Declutter your space
Cleaning can take a lot of time some don’t normally have, so quarantining is a great opportunity to go through your things and organize. It’s a well-known fact that physical clutter can represent mental clutter, so it may be beneficial to take the time to remove unnecessary items from your space and deep-clean things you might not normally give attention to. Section your space off, and tackle it in small portions to not wear yourself out.
Build a routine
With classes, jobs and other activities, it may be relieving and beneficial if you plan out your days/weeks. Staying home can make every day seem the same, so creating a routine will make it easier to stay productive. Make a time table to organize the days, and keep track of what you’re doing. Feel free to plan out as much or as little you want. With a strong routine, you’ll be able to build habits and stay productive during your everyday life.
Catch up on books/audiobooks
While many enjoy reading for pleasure in their downtime, it may be hard to find time in a busy schedule, so with all the time on your hands, isolation is a great time to finish that book or series you put off. Immersing yourself in a different world can help you to de-stress while also exercising your brain. There are so many options to choose from, so feel free to finish multiple off your bookshelf.
Pick up yoga
Whether you’ve never tried yoga or you shelved your mat away, isolation is an excellent time to start exercising. Quarantining and being stuck in your space can be stressful. It’s a great exercise to try when you may be feeling low. Yoga is not only productive, but it’s also relaxing and a great mood booster. There are plenty of online yoga classes on YouTube or other sites that offer it for free.
