The Athens City-County Health Department reported five new COVID-19 deaths in Athens County on Friday, bringing the total number of COVID-19 related deaths to 88.
The rest of the report, tweeted Monday by the department, indicated Athens remains in the red risk level of the Ohio Public Health Advisory System. At that level, the county is experiencing very high levels of COVID-19 exposure and spread
In addition, there are six more reported cases of COVID-19, bringing the total number of active cases to 283, down from the 342 active cases reported Oct. 26, according to a previous Post report.
Currently, 45.65% of Athens County residents are fully vaccinated, and 48.56% have began the vaccination process.
