The Athens City-County Health Department reported 4 new COVID-19 deaths Tuesday, bringing the death toll to 83.
In the past week, seven COVID-19 related deaths have been reported. Athens County remains at the red alert level, indicating a high level of exposure and spread among the population. There are 342 active cases.
Currently, 48.3% of the county population has at least started the vaccination process, with 45.37% fully vaccinated.
Ohio University has a 0.1% positivity rate, as indicated by the most recent total asymptomatic testing data, following the recent trend of continuous decline. There have been no symptomatic positive tests as of Oct. 23.
83% of Athens campus students and employees are fully vaccinated. Of on-campus students, 84.3% are vaccinated.
No university quarantine or isolation housing is in use, and all but Gamertsfelder Hall are at the lowest COVID-19 alert level.
