The Athens City-County Health Department reported four new COVID-19 related deaths Wednesday, bringing the county’s death toll to 76.
The county remains at the red alert level, indicating a high risk of exposure and spread of the virus. There are currently 441 presumed active cases, down from 506 active cases Oct. 13.
47.96% of Athens County residents have at least started the vaccination process and 45.1% have completed the process.
Vaccination rates at Ohio University continue to increase as the Nov. 15 mandated vaccination deadline approaches. Currently, approximately 80% of students and staff are fully vaccinated.
Increasing vaccinations correspond to falling rates of positive cases, Gillian Ice, special assistant to the president for public health operations, said in a previous Post report. Currently, asymptomatic testing positivity rate among students are below 1%.
