Weekender Briefs: Celebrate Juneteenth with health walk, take an outdoor landscape painting workshop

Friday, June 18

“Perceive with Caution” A Kennedy Museum of Art Merging Concepts Exhibit from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. hosted by the Kennedy Museum of Art, 100 Ridges Circle. Visit the Kennedy Museum to see the student-developed, curated, designed and installed “Perceive with Caution” art exhibit. To schedule a time to see the exhibit, fill out the Kennedy Museum’s visitor approval Google Form.

Saturday, June 19

Athens Farmers Market at 9 a.m., hosted by Athens Farmers Market, 1002 E. State St. Shop for locally grown and locally made foods and goods at the farmers’ market. The market accepts SNAP, credit cards and wholesome wave. Masks are recommended, and social distancing protocols are in place.

Admission: Free

Landscape Painting at 1 p.m., hosted by Hocking Makers Network, 3301 Hocking Parkway, Nelsonville. Create an oil-painting in the outdoors of the landscape on a 12-by-18 canvas. Registration can be found online

Admission: $35

Juneteenth Health Walk at 10 a.m., hosted by the Division of Diversity and Inclusion. Participants will meet at the Mill Street Bike Path Access and walk the Athens bike path to commemorate Juneteenth.

Admission: Free

Juneteenth Festival from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., hosted by the Division of Diversity and Inclusion, in Parking Lot 55 at Ohio University. The festival will include food, vendors, live music and activities for children. Those participating are asked to bring a personal hygiene or beauty item to donate. The items donated will be available to OHIO students of color via the Being Black in College program.

Sunday, June 20

Quilt National at The Dairy Barn, 8000 Dairy Lane. Local and worldwide artists’ quilts are on display at the 22nd biennial Quilt National. There are 84 artists with quilts on display, all with different meanings and patterns. Gallery reservations are required and can be made online.

Admission: $8 for Dairy Barn members, $10 for non-members
