The Athens City-County Health Department reported a new COVID-19 death Friday, bringing the total number of deaths in the county to 60.
The deceased individual was in the 70–79 age range. The last reported COVID-19 death was of an individual in the 80+ range May 18.
The health department also reported two new COVID-19 cases in the county, and the current number of active cases now stands at 26. Athens remains at the level one, or “yellow” alert level, for coronavirus exposure and spread.
Currently, 11,196 Athens residents have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine through the health department, and 9,884 are fully vaccinated through the health department.
