Another death related to COVID-19 was confirmed by the Athens City-County Health Department on Tuesday.
The deceased individual was aged 80+, bringing the total reported coronavirus deaths in that age range to 31. The last death confirmed by the health department was an individual in the 60–69 age range on April 30. Athens’ COVID-19 death toll now stands at 59.
The city reported eight new cases since May 11, with three hospitalizations due to the virus. There are currently 46 cases presumed active. Athens remains in the orange, or level 2, alert level after being lowered from red, level 3, May 6.
So far, 11,101 Athens residents have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine through the health department and 9,695 have been fully vaccinated though the health department.
