An additional COVID-19 death was reported Sunday in Athens County, increasing the county’s death toll for the virus to nine.
A male in his 50s died Dec. 11 of COVID-19, according to data from the Ohio Department of Health. This marks the first COVID-19 death of someone in their 50s in Athens County.
The last COVID-19 deaths in the county were both reported on Thursday, Dec. 24. A woman in the 80+ age range and a man in his 70s both died between Dec. 12 and Dec. 14.
Athens County currently has 2,968 cases of the coronavirus. Of those, 476 are active, according to the Athens City-County Health Department.
