The Athens City-County Health Department reported Tuesday two new deaths related to the coronavirus, bringing the total number of COVID-19 deaths in the county to six.
A woman in her 80s died from the coronavirus on Nov. 20, according to data from the Ohio Department of Health. A man in his 70s also died, but the exact date of death is unknown. He was admitted for care Nov. 17.
Those deaths mark the first reported since early November.
Athens County has 2,433 COVID-19 cases as of Dec. 8. Of those cases, 636 are currently active.
The county also remains a level three, or red, county on the Ohio Department of Health’s Public Health Advisory Alert System. Level three counties are those with very high spread and exposure of COVID-19. Residents are recommended to limit their activities as much as possible.
