The Athens County Sheriff’s Office arrested two men for possessing a stolen firearm on Wednesday.
The Athens County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Interdiction units conducted a traffic stop on US RTE 33 near The Plains for moving violations. Deputies searched the vehicle and found two loaded handguns, one of which was identified as stolen by the Columbus Police Department.
The driver, Aaron J. Hughes, 19, of Columbus, was arrested for having weapons under disability, a felony of the third degree.
Hughes was also arrested for improper handling of a firearm and receiving stolen property, both felonies of the fourth degree.
The rear seat passenger, Ronald E. Vaughn, was arrested for improper handling of a firearm and receiving stolen property, both felonies of the fourth degree.
Additional charges for aggravated possession are expected once lab results are completed, as suspected MDMA was found on Hughes.
