In the past week, Athens County reported 55 COVID-19 cases, marking the first week since Sept. 19 that the number of new cases has been less than 100.
Athens County has 1,388 confirmed COVID-19 cases, 266 of which are currently active.
Since Oct. 10, the number of new cases reported has been decreasing.
Of the cases reported in the county, about 80% of them are people under the age of 30. At the state level, that number is 33%, according to the Ohio Department of Health.
There have been 4,702 students and employees on the Athens Campus tested through Ohio University’s asymptomatic testing. Of those individuals, 268 were positive, which is a 5.7% positivity rate, according to OU’s COVID-19 Dashboard.
The university is also testing symptomatic students and employees through its COVID-19 hotline. There have been 1,106 students tested on the Athens campus, 554 of which have been positive tests.
There have been 114 employees tested, and •eight have tested positive.
