TV Review: The Whisperers launched an attack on Alexandria during Sunday’s episode of ‘The Walking Dead’

After Daryl (Norman Reedus) escaped the cave last week, the Whisperers took their opportunity to attack Alexandria.

Beta (Ryan Hurst) snuck into Alexandria to wreak havoc among the citizens. Gamma (Thora Birch) came to warn Alexandria, but Rosita (Christian Serratos) and Gabriel (Seth Gilliam) were skeptical. After confessing that she killed her sister, Gabriel decided to believe her and go looking for the group trapped in the cave.

Gabriel led a group out toward a distress call at a nearby watchtower but soon realized it was a trick to leave Alexandria defenseless. Inside Alexandria, Alpha (Samantha Morton) moved from house to house killing people and slowly turning them into an internal walker army.

Meanwhile, Daryl attempted to get back inside the cave to the others but spotted Alpha and decided to attack her. The two got a few good blows in, and Alpha stabbed Daryl in the leg. She chased him to a nearby gas station, but they both passed out from blood loss.

Eventually, Beta found Gamma in a cell, but she escaped into a house with R.J. (Antony Azor) and Judith (Cailey Fleming). There, Judith shot Beta, who in an oddly coincidental move, was wearing a bulletproof vest. As Beta chased them, he ran into Rosita and almost killed her before Gamma threatened her own life, thus failing Beta’s mission. As the two returned home, they were confronted by Gabriel, and Beta escaping into the woods.

Lydia (Cassady McClincy) found Daryl and Alpha inside the gas station, and Alpha begged her to kill her, but Lydia said she was there for Daryl. When Daryl woke up, he found himself being cared for by Lydia. Alpha also woke up and found a note from Lydia that said, “Your way is not the only way.” Fueled by pain and more feral than ever, Alpha said she had been transformed into “the end of the world.”
