Eddith Dashiell was selected to be the next director of the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism, making her both the first African American and first woman to serve in the position.
She is taking over for Bob Stewart, who is retiring in May after 33 years with the school.
Dashiell, who started at Ohio University in 1992, is currently the associate director of the journalism school, according to a university news release.
“I see my role as the next director as just an extension of what I am already doing as associate director: providing my colleagues and our students with the support they need to be successful,” Dashiell said in the news release.
Before becoming the associate director of the journalism school, she was the director of studies for the Honors Tutorial College in the journalism school. She was also the associate dean for graduate programs in the Scripps College of Communication.
Dashiell also worked as the assistant provost for multicultural graduate affairs for OU and the assistant dean for undergraduate studies in the college of communication.
