The Athens Police Department believes that a potential threat to Athens Middle School Thursday is “not credible,” but officers are still investigating it further.
APD interviewed a witness after it found out about the threat at about 10:30 p.m. Thursday, according to a news release from the department.
The middle school was still open on Friday.
APD worked with the Ohio Strategic Analysis and Information Center to conduct a “thorough threat assessment.”
Athens City Schools and other agencies are working together on this report, according to a news release.
APD Capt. Ralph Harvey said in the release that he could not share details of the investigation or specifics of the department’s response, but if any more information is released, an update will be provided.
