The Athens Police Department received a sexual battery report early Sunday morning on West State Street.
A 21-year-old woman reported at about 2:30 a.m. Monday that she was a sexual assault victim. The subject is not yet known and there is not a suspect description, but the report is under investigation, according to an APD report.
The incident happened sometime between 2:40 a.m. and 8:20 a.m. Saturday.
There is no known threat to the public, APD Captain Ralph Harvey said in an email.
Harvey said anyone who saw something that might have been suspicious in the area of West State Street, North High Street or the surrounding areas between 2:40 a.m. and 8:20 a.m. is encouraged to contact the department.
This is the first sexual harassment report APD has released this school year. The Ohio University Police Department received its first report of sexual imposition on Aug. 29.
