The dynamic duo of Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk are back, and they’re piquing audience interest with their new Netflix drama series, The Politician.
Murphy and Falchuk have had numerous popular series on television, including Glee, Pose, American Horror Story, Nip/Tuck and Scream Queens. Separately, they have had a lot of successful series and films, including Murphy’s direction of Eat, Pray, Love and Falchuk’s Mutant X. The Politician follows suit with the dynamic duo’s other popular shows, complete with an all-star cast and a gripping storyline.
The story follows Payton Hobart (Ben Platt), a wealthy high school student from Santa Barbara, California, who has known his entire life he will be the president of the U.S. one day. However, he must take the appropriate steps to get there, including navigating the cutthroat high school student body presidential elections.
Each season is said to be centered around an important election Payton is involved in, with the first season revolving around high school student body president and then working his way up the political food chain.
The cast is phenomenal, including Platt as the frontman, Lucy Boynton, Jessica Lange, Gwyneth Paltrow, Zoey Deutch, Dylan McDermott and Bette Midler, to name a few.
The trailer was highly anticipated from audiences but was tonally very different than what was expected. However, it’s being well-received on Twitter by audiences looking forward to binge-watching the show.
