Kevin B. Lake

Son of former OU trustee pleaded guilty to killing his father

Jonah B. Lake, 21, pleaded guilty Wednesday to staging a home invasion and to fatally shooting his father, Kevin B. Lake, six times.

It took investigators almost 18 months to put together the evidence for the June 2017 shooting, according to a Columbus Dispatch article.

Kevin B. Lake, who was 51 at the time of his death, was appointed to be an OU Board of Trustees member in 2010 by then-Gov. Ted Strickland, according to an OU Compass article. Kevin B. Lake stepped down from his role in 2017 after he pleaded guilty to drug, tax and fraud charges, according to a previous Post report.

Franklin County Assistant Prosecutor James Lowe said detectives picked up trash from the home Kevin B. Lake was shot in and found a piece of paper with a hole cut in the same size as a photo of Jonah B. Lake sleeping, according to a Columbus Dispatch article. That photo was reported to the FBI as a possible threat.

After his father was shot, Jonah B. Lake called the police after 7 a.m. He said someone had broken into the family’s home, and he had heard gunshots after his father got into an altercation with the intruder, according to a previous Post report.
