The Ohio Secretary of State has ordered Athens and Meigs counties to have an automatic recount for the Alexander Local School District’s income tax issue, following a one vote pass for the levy.
The recount for Athens County will be at 9 a.m. on June 3, and Meigs County will have its recount at 11 a.m. on June 3, according to an Athens County Board of Elections news release.
The levy is a 1 percent earned income tax levy and the sixth levy to fund operating costs that Alexander Local School District has tried to pass within the last three years, according to a previous Post report.
An operating levy hadn’t been passed since 1991, according to a previous Post report.
The levy excludes income from capital gain, pensions and Social Security, among others.
