The assistant director for East Green and diversity initiatives will take over as interim director of the LGBT Center.
The need for a new LGBT Center director comes after delfin bautista, who uses the lowercase spelling of their name and they/them pronouns, was not renewed for their position in January, according to a previous Post report.
Micah McCarey will replace Ty Carr, who has served as the interim since January and accepted a new role in University Advancement. McCarey will start as interim director on May 13 and serve until Ohio University completes a new national search for a permanent replacement, according to a news release.
The new search for the LGBT Center director will begin in the fall.
“I am mindful that we are at the end of the academic year, and students, faculty and staff participation will be essential in this process,” Gigi Secuban, vice president for diversity and inclusion, said in a news release.
Cynthia Anderson, a professor of sociology and director of women’s, gender and sexuality studies will chair the renewed search, according to the news release.
“While this search did not have the conclusion we had hoped for, it does not diminish the incredible work of the search committee and Dr. Jeremy Webster, who served as its chair,” Secuban said.
Carr will lead the planning for the triennial Black Alumni Reunion, which will be in September. He will also lead other opportunities focused on engagement of underrepresented students and alumni, according to the news release.
