Columbus hospital to pay in OU graduate’s wrongful death settlement

A Columbus hospital agreed to pay $250,000 in the wrongful death of a woman by an Ohio University graduate.

William Husel worked at Mount Carmel Health Systems for five years after graduating from OU in 2008 with a doctorate of Osteopathic medicine, according to a previous Post report.

The settlement comes after the death of Lora Stone, who was treated with a lethal and excessive dosage of fentanyl, according to a lawsuit filed in the Court of Common Pleas of Franklin County.

Stone went to Mount Carmel West with stomach pain the day she died, according to a Columbus Dispatch article. About $165,000 will go to Stone’s three daughters, and the other $83,000 will go to lawyer fees.

This is first of 27 wrongful death lawsuits filed against Mount Carmel and Husel that has come to a resolution.

Attorneys at Lesseberg & Valentine, who are handling several of the lawsuits, said some settlement offers made by Mount Carmel are unreasonable, offensive and disrespectful, according to the Dispatch article.
