A woman was arrested Wednesday in connection with multiple felony charges by the Athens County Major Crimes Unit, or MCU.
Jessica Morris, 39, of Lancaster, was arrested on a nationwide felony arrest warrant by MCU. The warrant had been issued by Athens County after she was indicted on Monday for four felony charges, according to the MCU press release.
The charges included one count of engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity, a first degree felony; one count of having weapons while under disability, a third degree felony; one count of money laundering, a third degree felony; and one count of obstructing justice, a fifth degree felony.
Fairfield County Sheriff’s Office recovered 40 items related to illegal drug trafficking after a search of Morris’s residence in Lancaster. This included about one-fourth of a pound of methamphetamine, about one-fourth of a pound of heroin and over $12,000 in cash, according to MCU press release. Two hand guns, digital scales and packing material were also recovered.
Morris was taken to the Fairfield County Jail and will appear for a hearing in Athens County at a later date. She was one of three people detained from her residence by the Fairfield County Sheriff’s Office. The other two individuals detained at the scene were released.
The arrest and search comes as part of a lengthy and unfinished investigation, according to an Athens County MCU press release. The investigation has documented the transportation of illegal drugs to Ohio and into Athens and surrounding counties.
