Last week’s episode of How to Get Away with Murder ended with Gabriel (Rome Flynn) calling Annalise (Viola Davis) from prison. This week’s episode fully detailed why Gabriel ended up in prison and the aftermath of it.
Annalise decided to represent Gabriel against the Keating 4’s wishes. When processed in court, the judge revealed Gabriel was being charged with domestic terrorism for throwing a chemical agent at police during the 2014 Ferguson protests. The court hearing had great social commentary on why the protests happened and reflected on the Black Lives Matter movement.
The Keating 4 and Annalise were bewildered by the details of Gabriel’s past but went to work on freeing Gabriel from prison. Eventually, Laurel (Karla Souza) found footage of the FBI planting evidence at Gabriel’s apartment. The footage was used to free Gabriel, but it also revealed to him that the Keating 4 and Annalise had been spying on him.
When confronted, Annalise quickly lied to calm his anger. She said Wes (Alfred Enoch) could’ve killed her husband and the DA found out when he uncovered Annalise’s intentions to adopt Wes. When the DA presented the documents to the governor, she ordered Nate Sr.’s death and then, got the DA killed. The lie was complex, but Gabriel believed it and fed it back to the FBI.
As the FBI listened to Gabriel, it was revealed they were building an elaborate case against Annalise and closing in on her and the Keating 4. At the end of the episode, the DA’s body was found and seemed to be incriminating the governor. In a bizarre twist, an Instagram post of the DA fighting with Nate (Billy Brown) in the background was revealed, throwing the fate of the Keating 4 and Annalise into complete mystery.
