Ohio legislators reintroduced a “heartbeat bill” Tuesday in the Ohio Senate and House of Representatives.
The bill would ban abortions once a fetal heartbeat is detected, which can be as early as six weeks into the pregnancy — before many women know they’re pregnant. The bill would be among the most restrictive abortion measures in the country.
Sen. Kristina Roegner (R-Hudson) introduced the bill to the Senate. Roegner said the original heartbeat bill was an integral piece of pro-life legislation. The bill was introduced in the House of Representatives by Ron Hood and Candice Keller, also both Republicans.
Similar bills were vetoed by former Gov. John Kasich two times, according to a previous Post report. However, Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine said in January that he will “absolutely” sign the previously vetoed bill.
